Brief History of the Department
Department of history started functioning on 1st June 1929 with B A Degree course .M A (History) was started in 1959. Eminent historians like Prof. P S Velayudhan,Prof. Ramachandra Kurupu,Prof. N R Kunjikkuttan, Prof. A P Meera Ben, Prof. Jokkim Panjikkaran and Prof. Gopinatha Menon has adorned the department for many years.Now there are nine faculty members in the Department. Among them four are PhD holders. Prof.Mariam George is the head of the Department.

There is an active literary forum comprising of folklore Ballards etc.
Ongoing/Completed Projects
• The department has undertaken a minor project funded by the UGC.
Work on the project is progressing satisfactorily. "

• Our student got 3 rd rank in the BA Degree examination of the MG University in 2003.
• Our students have participated in intercollegiate and interuniversity debates and won prizes.
• One of our students was a regular winner of quiz competitions at state, interuniversity and national levels.
• He has participated in the national quiz competition of the BBC.
• Akhila Jacob II nd MA student got II nd rank in MA History exam 2005 March. Sister Stancy,Miss Nima our students ihe M.A class got 1 and 11 rank in the university examinations.2007.
