Brief History of the Department
The Department of Hindi in Maharaja’s college is an esteemed dept, in Kerala state. Many full time and part time research scholars are engaged in research works here. Hence the Govt of Kerala has declared the dept as CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE. The dept provides both UG and PG courses in Hindi. The BA course was 1st introduced in 1951, under the headship of Prof. P.Lakshmikkuttty Amma. MA course was introduced i8n 1959 under the headship of Prof.A.Chandrahasan, a veteran scholar in Hindi language and literature.
Eminent scholars like Prof.A.Chandrahasan,Prof. P.Lakshmikkuttty Amma, Dr.V.Govinda Shenoy, Dr.H.Parameswaran, Prof. V. Hrishikeshan Thampi etal had served as head of the department. The department celebrated GOLDEN JUBILEE in the year 2009-2010. In connection with the Golden Jubilee a souvenir named “SUVARN” was published. On this prestigious occasion a programme “GURUVANDANAM”was organized in which we honoured all the professors who had served the department.
