Brief History of the Department

The Department of Statistics was established in 1987 by bifurcating from the Department of Mathematics. Statistics papers for B.Sc Mathematics, B.Sc Physics, B.A Economics, B.Com and M.A Economics were taught by the faculty of the Department.

The department is offering post graduate course in Statistics for the last 17 years. It has been selected as one of the departments with potential for excellence by the UGC and awarded several projects. Several of its alumni are well placed in central and state government services like ISS, CSO, Collegiate service, Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Planning Board, Nationalized Banks, Statistical software companies and other service sectors.
